Five Home Gadgets For The Modern Home

These days, furnishing and decorating your home is about more than just picking couches, posters and pillows. People are turning their attention to creating smart homes. These homes feature products that are seamlessly integrated with technology to make them more comfortable, convenient and fun to live in. Here are five of our favourite gadgets for the modern home.

  1. Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connected speakers
Love music? Why not upgrade your home’s sound system with a wireless speaker that connects to multiple devices and your music streaming accounts through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. These speakers come with a variety of features, such as motion sensors to automatically play music when you enter the room, and the capability to learn from your listening history to play the music you most likely want to hear without you picking it.
  2. Smart thermostats
The latest technology in home temperature control is the smart thermostat. These devices offer a sleek and modern way of controlling a home’s temperature, and saving energy. A smart thermostat can be controlled from anywhere through a smart phone or tablet and be scheduled to perform various functions at different times of the day. It is also quick to learn what your home’s temperature requirements are and will adapt to it automatically.
As an added bonus these devices help you save energy by automatically turning down the heat and switching off when you are away. As an added feature, some can also provide a summary of your daily energy consumption.
  3. Internet-connected security
All-in-one modern security systems simultaneously act as security cameras and alarm systems that monitor the home for irregular activity, and send security updates and alerts to your smart phone. Some security systems also check the home’s temperature and air quality. Additional smart security options are digital door locks that give you the option to lock or unlock any door remotely through your smart phone.
  4. Wireless lighting systems
Even the lighting systems in modern homes are becoming more convenient. Wireless lighting systems connect to the home’s Wi-Fi and can be controlled through a mobile app on your smart phone. These systems work with energy-saving LED lights which not only switch on and off remotely, but can change brightness and colours, and even sync with social media apps to flash when your phone receives a notification.
  5. Thermal leak detectors
A thermal leak detector is a must-have gadget if you are serious about reducing energy-consumption in your home. These hand-held devices use infrared sensors to measure surface temperatures and detect leaks in the insulation of a home – making it easy to find the areas that require fixing. As you scan areas with the device it will change to red for warmer areas and blue for colder areas. You can also use it to check the cooling efficiency of your fridge and freezer.
