Creating Synergy Between Your Indoor And Outdoor Living Spaces

An alfresco area is the ideal addition to any Australian home. It suits our lifestyle of indoor/outdoor living and a love for entertaining perfectly. These outdoor areas are also very effective extensions of a home’s living area– making it much more spacious and enjoyable. The best outdoor living spaces are usually fully integrated with their homes, and designed to blur the lines between inside and outside. To help you achieve this in your own home, here are some tips for creating the perfect synergy between outdoor and indoor living spaces.

Focus on flooring

Create a seamless transition between the inside and outside spaces by using the same flooring for both areas. Polished concrete, tiles and hardwood flooring looks elegant inside, but are durable and weather resistance for outside use. To blur the lines between the spaces further ensure that both areas are on the same height.

Smart styling

When designing your outdoor living space give it as much attention to it as you would any room in your home. For good flow between inside and outside aim to style your outdoor area with décor that mirror your interior style. Make use of colours, textures and themes that will complement what you have inside. If your home’s style is soft hues, rustic and cottage-inspired, a modern and shiny look outdoors will look out of place, but a similar look, such as a white-washed beach theme, will visually enhance what you have created inside.

Indoor furniture outside

Get rid of the uncomfortable and hard, plastic garden chairs and replace them with items that are as comfortable and inviting as your indoor furniture. Comfort and style is easy to achieve with modern outdoor lounge furniture, tables and chairs, and outdoor cushions that come in a large variety of shapes and styles, and are as comfortable and stylish as indoor furniture, but tough enough to withstand the elements.

Use glass

Break down the barriers between inside and outside with wide open glass doors and large windows. Instead of solid doors or walls, opt for glass patio doors that open up completely to eliminate the boundaries between the two areas.

Create shelter

Your outdoor area should be inviting and comfortable to use any time of the year.A roof will add shade during sunny days, but also provide some shelter from cold and rain during winter days. Combine this with shutters or outdoor blinds, and you have created an outdoor room which can be adapted to remain comfortable during any season. Also consider adding a fireplace or outdoor heaters for extra warmth during chilly nights.
